Jasprit Bumrah has strongly refuted recent reports suggesting he has been advised bed rest due to a back injury sustained during the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Labeling the claims as “fake news,” the Indian pacer revealed that these rumors made him “laugh.”

Reports of Swelling and Bed Rest

Earlier, The Times of India had reported, citing unnamed sources, that Bumrah had developed swelling in his back after returning from the Test series in Australia. The report claimed he was advised bed rest until the swelling subsided and mentioned that Bumrah was expected to visit the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI)’s Centre of Excellence, though no date had been finalized.

The injury reportedly occurred during the final Test at the Sydney Cricket Ground. Bumrah bowled below his usual pace in the first innings and later left the field for scans. In the second innings, he didn’t bowl at all, and India eventually lost the match, concluding the series 3-1 in favor of Australia.

Bumrah Reflects on Injury and Series Loss

In his post-series remarks, Bumrah expressed his frustration over missing out due to his injury. He said,
“Little frustrating, sometimes you have to respect your body, you can’t fight your body. So they’re a little disappointing at the end that, you know, probably missed out on the spiciest wicket in the series, but yeah, that’s the way it is. Sometimes you have to accept what it is and, you know, move forward.”

Awaiting Official Updates from BCCI

Since the injury, various speculations have surfaced about Bumrah’s condition. However, the BCCI has yet to release an official statement or detailed update regarding his status. Reports suggest that the board is also awaiting feedback from the medical team before making any announcements.

Bumrah’s Importance to Indian Cricket

As India’s only all-format player, Jasprit Bumrah is a crucial asset to the team. While he is likely to miss the upcoming white-ball series against England, the pacer will focus on recovering in time for the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy, scheduled to begin in February.
